12 November 2012 - Big BEN rally cars at BCA

Special 'No Reserve' Sale raises over £3,200 for BEN at Blackbushe

British Car Auctions (BCA), leading vehicle auction company and Car Dealer Magazine combined to offer a special entry of six cars that recently competed in the Big BEN Rally fundraising event. The challenge was to complete a sponsored trip from the UK to Barcelona and back in a car costing no more than £500, with all proceeds going to BEN – the Automotive Industry's Benevolent Fund.

The cars - fresh from their four days on the road– were all donated by the various teams participating in the Big BEN Rally and BCA sold them free of charge.

The sale in the Number 1 Hall at Blackbushe saw a throng of buyers battling it out for the cars, and all six sold, raising an impressive £2,465 for the charity. BCA donated a further £750 to the fundraising pot.

All six cars sold. Thunderbird 2 – a converted Nissan QX V6 saloon - sold for £375, the Contact Advantage's 'Scottish' Honda Civic in tartan with red hair roof realized £150 and the Citroen C5 donated by Marshalls Cambridge was the top seller on the day at £750. The Car Dealer team car – a 1995 Rover 827 Sterling (as favoured by Alan Partridge) - sold for £400, the Vauxhall Astra donated by CV Wow made £650 and the 1997 Astra Estate donated by Cooper solutions sold for £140.

Car Dealer Magazine editor James Baggott commented "BCA pulled out all the stops to help us realise this considerable sum for the charity, giving us a prime selling slot to maximise the interest from buyers. "

BEN Events and Exhibitions Manager Kelly Neal added "The Big BEN Rally is not only a great fundraiser but it also generates plenty of awareness for BEN - the UK's dedicated charity for those who work, or have worked, in the automotive and related sector. "

BCA Blackbushe manager James Gibson conducted the auctioneering and said "We were delighted to help the Big BEN Rally initiative by selling the competing cars here at Blackbushe. This event has raised considerable funds for BEN in recent years and we would like to congratulate the team at Car Dealer magazine for organising the event and to all the teams who took part."
